Background

Chatham House engages governments, the private sector and civil society in open debate and confidential discussion on the most significant developments in international affairs. We were delighted to be commissioned to redevelop the Chatham House website as a platform for independent and rigorous analysis of critical global, regional and country-specific challenges.

Build

We carried out the build on Drupal 7 using our existing framework for speed and performance. Major data migration was required to form a huge body of content (10,000+ nodes). The depth of the site presented an interesting challenge for navigation and information architecture. We worked closely with the Chatham team to design and implement a structure that served the complex needs of the organisation while maintaining a sleek and usable interface.

A particular achievement was our custom development on events functionality. We applied a views-based approach to run queries and filter events according to the various criteria of potential audiences (members, membership type, etc.). This custom development seamlessly integrated with the existing third-party membership database, EBMS.

Results

One of the most enjoyable parts of the project was working with the Chatham House team. We achieved a collaborative, fluid approach that allowed us to think creatively and problem-solve setbacks. The result is a site that can comfortably and competently appeal to its primary audience of decision-makers and political influencers.
