PATH

PATH is a global nonprofit working to accelerate health equity by bringing together public institutions, businesses, social enterprises, and investors to solve the world’s most pressing health challenges. With a presence in over 70 countries, PATH works across borders and sectors to improve health systems, strengthen supply chains, respond to infectious disease threats, and deliver innovations that save lives and improve wellbeing for women, children, and vulnerable communities.

The challenge

Barriers to overcome

PATH.org’s digital infrastructure, built on WordPress, was no longer fit for purpose. The fragmented setup of standalone microsites made it difficult to scale, manage content efficiently, and ensure consistency across regions. Editors faced barriers to delivering timely, localised content, and the organisation lacked the flexibility to personalise user experiences or integrate with modern tools like Salesforce. With a growing demand for global visibility and regional relevance, PATH needed a CMS that could support both.

The strategy

Migrating to Wagtail CMS

To meet these needs, PATH chose to migrate to Wagtail CMS — a powerful, flexible, and open-source platform. The strategy focused on:

Consolidation and standardisation
Bringing all microsites under a single Wagtail instance to simplify support, training, and updates.

Personalisation
Enabling region-specific content, languages, and user journeys to increase relevance and engagement.

Future integration
Preparing the ground for advanced integrations with CRM tools, such as Salesforce, to power data-driven engagement.

Implementation

Following a successful relaunch of the PATH site on Wagtail working with Instrument, we've helped PATH to:

Integrate systems
Connecting Wagtail with Salesforce Marketing Cloud Account Engagement to gain broader visibility into user journeys and enable sophisticated content delivery

Enable targeted communications
Implementing functionality for visitors to subscribe to specific, topical newsletters across PATH programs like vaccines, women's reproductive health, and early childhood development

Improve navigation
Delivering a major update of main menu categories and top-level navigation, informed by site audits, visitor data, and user research including tree testing and card sorting

Expand global reach
Supporting a large-scale localization initiative to make the site available in French, Vietnamese and Portuguese

The outcomes

PATH’s new Wagtail website has delivered meaningful improvements

Better serving key audiences - The site now effectively works as both a resource library for health professionals and a compelling platform for donors

Simpler content management - Staff can now easily update different sections of the website thanks to clear permission levels and user-friendly editing tools

Smarter marketing - By connecting Wagtail to Salesforce, PATH can see how visitors use their site and deliver more relevant content

Consistent look and feel - A unified design makes the entire site feel cohesive while allowing for necessary regional variations

Ready for future growth - The platform provides a solid foundation that can adapt to PATH's changing needs, from multiple languages to specialized program pages

Working with Torchbox has been a game-changer for PATH. As a global non-profit organization with diverse audiences—from individual donors to institutional funders and international partners—we needed a web development partner who not only understood the technical aspects of building a great website, but also the strategic nuance of communicating impact in the nonprofit space. Torchbox delivered on both fronts. They take the time to understand our goals, our audiences, and our content, and consistently offer thoughtful guidance that helps us improve how we share our work online. Their team is responsive, collaborative, and a true partner in helping us make the most of our digital presence. It’s clear that Torchbox is committed to helping nonprofits succeed. We’re grateful for their expertise in translating complex work into compelling digital experiences.
