Partnering with Amnesty International UK to help grow the human rights movement across the UK

We're delighted to announce the launch of Amnesty International UK's new website, built on Wagtail CMS. The new platform supports their 2022-2030 strategy and will help grow the human rights movement across the UK.

The background

For over 60 years, Amnesty International has been at the forefront of human rights activism. Today, Amnesty International UK is one of the largest sections in the global movement, with more than half a million supporters, members and activists across the UK.

Amnesty defends human rights worldwide by exposing abuses, demanding justice and empowering people to stand up for their rights. The new website was designed as a key digital touch point, introducing new audiences to the movement while helping existing activists and supporters take action and drive change wherever they are.

We were selected as Amnesty's digital partner to help make that vision a reality.

Panels highlight human rights campaigns and articles including solidarity with Hong Kong activists, a call to release Jimmy Lai, a petition to end the prosecution of peaceful protestors in the UK, defence of the right to protest, and a feature titled “Calling out genocide in Gaza.” The Amnesty International logo appears prominently in yellow.

We needed a partner who understood that this is about more than a website. It's about building the digital infrastructure for a movement. Torchbox got that from the start.

What we've built

The new website is optimised for the things that matter most to Amnesty: taking action, donating, fundraising, and recruiting new activists into the movement. It makes it easier for people to understand who Amnesty are, what they stand for, and how to get involved.

Torchbox brought deep expertise in the charity sector, with every member of the team demonstrating real understanding of our world. They shared strong technical expertise throughout the project, helping us deliver an accessible, user-friendly website and Knowledge Hub. Their approach ensured the website not only works well for our audiences but also actively supports our organisational strategy.

Alongside the website, we've built a knowledge hub that brings together decades of human rights expertise, making it easier for supporters, teachers, activists and policy makers to find and share trusted resources.

The platform integrates with Engaging Networks for campaign actions, goDonate for fundraising, and Jotform for secure data capture.

Why Wagtail CMS

Wagtail CMS gives Amnesty the security, flexibility and intuitive editing experience they need. It's why organisations like Oxfam, NHS and RNIB trust Wagtail with their flagship websites. For Amnesty, an organisation that faces constant cyber threats, security was a key consideration.

During the pitch, we had an excellent demo of Wagtail’s capabilities. We were blown away by the clean user interface and how powerful it will be in enabling our teams to confidently manage, update and take ownership of their content. Wagtail will help us keep information accurate, accessible and up to date across the organisation.
