Young people have been going on strike from school on Fridays since Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg began her “School Strike for Climate” in August 2018, and, on Friday 20th September, the rest of us have a chance to join them and show our support.

A global climate strike has been organised, three days before a UN emergency climate summit in New York, aiming to bring together people of all ages to demand governments take action in the face of the climate emergency.

Many of us at Torchbox feel very strongly about the issue of climate change. In the past, this has led to passion projects we’ve started and supported. And, on Friday, we’re supporting the strike.

Happily, others in our industry are doing this too. We’ve signed up to:

  • Create & Strike, which commits creative industry leaders to giving their staff the chance to join the strike and the tools to make something to amplify their message at the strikes (over 70 agencies have signed up).
  • Creative Climate Disclosure which commits agencies to reveal the percentage of turnover from fossil fuel companies and other high carbon clients, and to divest client rosters of these organisations.

We’ll be making signs for the march in our offices in Bristol and Oxfordshire on Thursday, get in touch if you’d like to join us. Or, if you are in London, you may be able to join the Create & Strike sign making workshop at Tate Modern tomorrow.

You’ll see members of our team at events in Bristol and Oxford and, hopefully, in other cities and towns around the UK and beyond. We hope to see you there too.
