Airplot! animation

Wes West

Back in 2009, Greenpeace bought a patch of land right in the middle of the area earmarked for the expansion of Heathrow airport. As the legal owners of the site, they want to do everything they can to block the development of a third runway.

Greenpeace now intend to strengthen their position on the site so, if the police and bulldozers come, they are able to occupy the land and stop the construction. They have announced an architectural competition in two parts - one for architects and architectural students, the other for anyone with a great idea - seeking both practical and inspired solutions for defending the site.

Greenpeace asked Torchbox to create an animated segment for their video announcing the competition; they wanted something fun that would help inspire people and illustrate what they are looking for in the proposals.

It was quite a tight deadline but after the initial brief, Greenpeace gave us full creative control over the animation and we were able to go from storyboards to live on the website in just over 2 weeks. We also got some lovely feedback from Jamie at Greenpeace, which is always nice to hear.

Submissions have already started arriving and we're looking forward to seeing something fantastic and effective being built on the site.

You can submit your ideas here.
